What Kind of Vehicle Do I Need for Amazon Relay?

Apr. 15 2023 Miscellaneous By Bayshore Truck Center

Joining Amazon Relay is an excellent opportunity for many truck drivers and commercial truck owners. However, just not any vehicle will suffice for the heavy hauling requirements. Learn about the specific vehicle requirements as mandated by Amazon.

Vehicle and Trailer Requirements

According to Amazon Relay's website, accepted vehicles for transport use include reefers, 53-feet dry vans, and 28-feet trailers.

Tractors that meet certain requirements are also allowed. This includes box trucks, day cabs, and sleeper cabs. Regardless of the tractor type, the cargo dimension must be a minimum of 26-feet by eight-feet by eight-feet. Tractors must also have straps fixed to the cargo area. The platform must be strong enough to withstand the weight of a pallet jack at or near its weight capacity.

As of the date of this post, Amazon does not accept the use of cargo and sprinter vans, or 24-feet box trucks.

Where Can I Acquire Vehicles That Meet These Requirements?

You can't find vehicles with the above requirements at a typical dealership. Look for a dealership that carries both new and pre-owned commercial trucks. You can acquire a model to add to your existing fleet that's approved for Amazon Relay use. A pre-owned model is especially a cost-effective way to expand your fleet without compromising on reliability.
